Definition
A restriction, set in the governing documents, on how many consecutive terms a director may serve on the board.
A term limit caps how long a director can serve consecutively before stepping down, if the governing documents impose one. Not all associations have them.
Term limits can encourage fresh participation and prevent stagnation, but in small communities they can also be difficult when few volunteers are available. Whether they apply, and how, is defined in the bylaws.
