Definition
A formal written notice informing an owner of a rules violation and what's required to resolve it.
A notice of violation is the formal written communication telling an owner they're out of compliance, describing the specific issue, citing the rule, and stating what must be done and by when.
Proper notice is the first step of fair enforcement and a due-process requirement in most communities. It should be clear, factual, and consistent with the enforcement policy. Documenting that notice was sent protects the association if the matter escalates.
